Aqua
vista( Aqua means “water and Vista means a pleasant view”) fish farm and resort
is located at Anantigha village
no.1 Mesembe close, Calabar south local government area. It was set up
in 1996 by Chief Dr Oscar Umoh, as a resort and recreation ground for family
and friends.
Mode of operation and major
activities:
Aqua Vista farm and
resort as the name implies deal with the cultivation of fishes such as the
tilapia (Oreochromis nilticus ) cat
fish(Clarias gariepinus) and mud
fishes(Neochanna galaxiidae) as well as selling of fishes. Aqua vista also provides a learning
environment which is its educational purposes. It serves as a recreational and tourist center for
visitors. It is ideal for people that love and
appreciate the beauty of nature and those who seek places to meditate. Aqua
Vista farms and resort was designed as an “agro-tourism enterprise” and
combines a working fish farm with an eco-tourism experience in a way that the
adventurous and unpretentious are to enjoy. In aqua vista fish
farm, the tilapia fishes were usually breed in a natural pond and the cat
fishes were breed in an artificial pond .Artificial fertilization of cat fish
is also carried out and it involves
series of stages from the egg-fry-fingerlings-juveniles-table size cat
fishes. They have a hartchery were the egs are often hatched. The fishes are
feed with fish feeds called coppens which are composed of vegetables, proteins,
anti-oxidants( vitamin C), cereal or derivatives, essential amino acids,
esential vitamins, minerals and trace
elements. In Aqua Vista, the compound has a natural fish pond that is about 13 hectares in size and the pond is fed with water from a river source of that are river fed with rhythmic tidal flows
The successful nature of this facility is due to their geographical location which is the tropical rain forest zone. It rains much in this area which checkmates the idea of alternative source of water. This establishment plays a vital role in both recreational and refreshment ground for consumers, which also provide an enabling environment for students and other researchers
